Newest Obsession: Puffed Sleeves

The bigger the sleeves, the better, am I right?

Dress c/o 15% off with code: DAILYAMY15 || Shoes || Purse || Sunglasses || Watch || Earrings - Handmade from my Etsy shop, Hello Amess!

Hi friends!

So I've been on kind of a shopping craze this past month and a half which seems silly considering the only thing I have to look forward to nowadays is running to the grocery store for snacks or getting dressed up to film TikTok videos... but nonetheless at least I'll have outfits prepared for post-COVID-19 quarantine.

One common thing I've been finding my shopping cart as of late are puffed sleeved items. Not sure if this trend is due to me compensating the fact that all I've been wearing for the past four months are loungewear or the fact that dramatic puffed sleeves just make me feel like I can take on the world... or it could possibly be a combination of both. Nonetheless, I'm rolling with it.

This dress is the latest in my puffed sleeved collection and can definitely see myself wearing this out for future brunch dates for when it's safe to do so again. I love the innocent daisy print all over the dress and the added ruffle at the bottom to balance out the puffed sleeves.

Also, this is my last blog post (at least for a while!) with my long hair! Stay tuned for upcoming posts featuring my shorter hair cut!

I Launched an Etsy Shop: Hello Amess

THE SHOP IS LIVE AT 6PM EST!!!

Hello Amess Etsy shop: handmade polymer clay earrings

Hi friends!

I've been hinting for a little bit that I have a project that I am working on launching and if you've been reading my last couple of blog posts I'm sure you have seen some hints... I launched my own handmade polymer clay earring line, Hello Amess, on Etsy!! My products will go live in my Etsy shop at 6:00pm EST!

Hello Amess - handcrafted polymer clay jewelry on etsy

Hello Amess came to be after wanting to take on another side project while being at home so much for quarantine. I have always been a "crafty kid," was the one who took every art class in school (even AP art!), and is constantly on Pinterest searching for my next DIY project. I have heard of clay earrings for a bit now and have been interested in them for a bit now. After a couple months and hours of research on Pinterest, YouTube, and even TikTok I've decided to launch my little shop.

We all know I love a good pair of statement earrings and think they always add such a fun touch to any outfit, but the biggest con with large statement earrings are the weight of them. Most earrings tend to be too heavy for me to wear for long periods of time and even though I tend to fight through the whole "beauty is pain" mindset when I do wear my heavier earrings out, I know my ears don't appreciate it. Here's why polymer clay earrings are so great.

Polymer clay earrings are incredibly lightweight and for the most part, I don't even feel like I'm wearing any earrings because they are that lightweight. I also love how there's an unlimited amount of possibilities when it comes to polymer clay. I've been brainstorming nonstop on different designs, patterns, and techniques to try out.

I wanted my earring line to be fun, colorful, and to spark joy. Here is a few sneak peeks of some styles that will be included in my first launch!

One Month Update on Living with My Boyfriend

So I haven't really *officially* announced it on my blog, but I moved in with my boyfriend!

what it's like living with your boyfriend

...and his brother lol.

Consider this my official announcement on my blog. A little over a month ago I packed up my apartment and moved in with my boyfriend and his brother. The decision was a bit last minute, but I'm so happy and grateful for how everything worked out. Let's take a little rewind on how we got here though.

Back in April, I was starting to look at my living options for the next year. My cousin who I was living with was graduating in the spring and had already made the decision to move back home with her parents. On top of that, the few people I knew that were still in Charlotte already have living arrangements for the next year or are already settled into living with their significant other. With no solid leads on potential roommates and not wanting to gamble with living with a complete stranger, I had made the decision at the time to live by myself. Thus began the series of searching on every apartment site in my area, making sure they were in a safe part of town and of course, checking to see if they were within my budget.

We were still in the stay-at-home orders back in April so the only way I could tour each space that fit all of my criteria was through viral tours. After weeks of calls, pros and cons lists, and virtual tours I have narrowed it down to two potential options. As I started to get excited about the thought of having a space of my own, the main major drawback was my financials. At the time my hours were cut short due to COVID and with so little being known at the time I was very worried if it was financially smart/possible for me to even get an apartment on my own (bc let me tell ya. One bedroom apartments are priiiiccccyyyy).

My boyfriend knew how stressful my living situation was and he and his brother had come together and offered me the option to move in with them. They lived a short distance away from my apartment and since I was over there all the time anyway, they figured me moving in wasn't going to make that big of a difference. I was hesitant at first with many concerns being "is it too soon to move in with my boyfriend?" "Would it be too crowded with the three of us?" "How would this affect our relationship?" "What if we break up?" etc. etc. etc.

After much thought and discussion, I decided it was the best move for me to move in with them. And I'm so glad I did! It's been a little over a month and even though there are still some things for us to get accustomed to, things have been pretty smooth sailing. I will say the biggest challenge is finding space to store everything I've brought from my apartment over to a space that's already furnished... and of course sharing a closet with my boyfriend. lol.

I thought it'd be fun if I brought my boyfriend, Christian on to share some of his thoughts on our first month living together. Here are some of his answers below!

HOW'S IT BEEN LIVING TOGETHER SO FAR?

A: So far so good! Like I said, I was over a lot before I moved in anyway so really not much has changed except for the fact that my stuff is here now.

C: I agree, that it wasn't that big of a change since she was constantly here. I would say the biggest change for me is that I no longer have 100% control over a room that I've lived in for five years now. Also, adjusting to the fact that Amy has the right to make demands on chores in a space that I've lived in for so long and have had my own way of keeping clean.

DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH HAVING YOUR OWN PERSONAL SPACE?

A: Not as much as I thought we would. We had moved his desk with his gaming setup out of the bedroom into a small office room and I think that's helped a lot. Especially since there are three of us working from home here in this space it's been nice that we are able to each have our own room to work in.

C: Yeah it's been great for me to be able to escape into the office and have time for myself, but it's inconvenient at times when I have to take a nap in our bedroom and Amy has to leave because she can't stand my snoring. (lolol) But otherwise, I feel like it's easy to find time and space to ourselves.

HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT SPLITTING THINGS UP IN TERMS OF GROCERIES, CHORES, ETC?

A: In terms of groceries, household items, etc, straight down the middle. I made it very clear to Christian when I moved in I wasn't the type who likes to feel like I owe people something. We made an agreement to split the cost of things evenly which has worked well with us so far. In terms of chores... we're still working on that lol.

C: I think it's great that we're not in the type of relationship where one person is expected to do or pay for everything. It's easy for us to just ask the other to pitch in on certain things, but at the end of the day, I know that Amy is better at cleaning and I handle all of the cooking. We both agree that's now how we always want it to be and we try to keep each other pretty accountable for accommodating one another....but, yeah, getting me to clean often is still a work in progress. lol.

HOW'S THE CLOSET SITUATION?

A: We work with what we have lol. The closet really is a decent size, but coming from a space where I had a walk-in closet all to myself to a standard closet that I now have to share was a little bit of a challenge to figure out at first. I am very lucky in that Christian is kind enough to give most of the storage room for my things as I do have a liiiiitle more clothes. I am a style blogger after all. lol

C: Lol there is no closet situation. I get zero space. That's it.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT LIVING TOGETHER?

A: I now only have to take a few short steps to annoy Christian vs having to drive five minutes down the road. Lol, but really it's nice to know that even if we're both having a long busy day we are guaranteed to see each other at night. We also are going to save a lot of $$$ on date nights now that we see each other every day which is great lol.

C: My favorite thing would have to be being able to annoy Amy pretty much whenever I want haha. I know it's pretty corny but she's my best friend and it is great to be able to update her about my day, pop in to show her a dumb video, or just make dinner together every night (she just heats up vegetables).  But my absolute favorite thing is that she has a key to the place and I no longer have to get up in the middle of a game with the boys to let her in lol.

And there's the tea on living together, lol. Be sure to follow along on Instagram for more peeks on what it's like to live together! I'll be sure to share more on our journey of living together along the way. If you have any questions about living with a significant other leave them down below! I think it'd be fun to do these interview update posts every now and then to check-in!

I hope you all are doing well and as always, thank you for reading!

Amy

My Summer Uniform

Summer Outfit Inspiration

Romper || Similar Purse || Earrings (handmade by me, details coming soon!) || Similar Sunglasses || Watch ||  Shoes c/o get 15% off with code: dailyamy15

Summer weather is definitely here in the Carolinas with temperatures in the high 90's even, 100s this week. For most days my outfits tend to be some combination of an oversized t-shirt and lounge shorts, but for the rare occasions where I get to dress up (ie: the grocery store) rompers and white tennis shoes have been my go-to as of late.

I know everyone raves about a good flowy summer dress for hot summer days, but rompers, especially rompers that look like dresses, are a way better option in my opinion. I mean, you get the convenience of only throwing on one piece of clothing for an outfit but you also have the added comfort of shorts in case mother nature decides to give you a big gust of wind your way while you're out. This little romper (yes, romper!!) has been on repeat for me these last few weeks. It's so lightweight and the back is sheer which is perfect and breezy for hot summer days.

In other news, if you don't follow me on Instagram then you may not know I cut my hair! I decided last minute to donate my hair during my hair appointment and I'm so happy I did. More to come on that soon! But in the meantime, I'll probably be posting photos with my long hair for a bit now since most of my content is preshot a few weeks in advanced...#bloggerprobs.

I hope you all are doing well and as always, thank you for reading!

Amy

How to Style Boyfriend Jeans

I've strictly been a skinny jeans girl ever since I realized flare jeans were not the look for me during my freshman year of high school... until now.

Styling boyfriend jeans

Top c/o 15% off with code: DAILYAMY15 || Boyfriend Jeans || Shoes || Earrings || Purse || Similar Sunglasses

Boyfriend jeans were always that piece of clothing that I told myself that I would never wear or would fit into my wardrobe. I have strictly been skinny jeans type of gal since freshman year of high school and have always thought that baggier jeans, especially boyfriend jeans were something I could never pull off. It was sometime near the start of this year when I decided to finally give them a chance and try them on after seeing them styled all over Pinterest. I'm here to report that after having these babies for a solid six months that I'm hooked and on the hunt for my next pair. After styling these babies for the past few months I'm sharing my go-to "formula" to style these boyfriend jeans in a chic and feminine way.

How to style boyfriend jeans
How to style boyfriend jeans

1. FITTED TOP

To counteract the looser fit of the boyfriend jeans I love to pair them with a more fitted top. This gives me a little more shape and I typically take it a step further by either tucking the shirt all the way around or doing a front tuck to define my waist. My favorite tops to style with these jeans are fun girly tops such as this pink one or a classic white button-down for a more classic look.

2. HEELS
Nude or blush heels are always my go-to when styling these boyfriend jeans. They help elongate my legs vs wearing the trusty white converse that cut my legs off and make me look shorter. I also like the juxtaposition of a girly top and heels with these edgier boyfriend jeans.

3. ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE
I'm a firm believer that accessories can take your look for a solid 7 to a 10. You could pair these jeans with a simple white tee, nude heels, and a fun pair of statement earrings and be good to go. Lately, I've been loving large and in charge statement earrings and dainty rings.

How to Talk to Your Asian Parents About Black Lives Matter

Let's talk about the Black Lives Matter movement.

By now I'm sure you've heard about the name George Floyd, the protests, police brutality, and the Black Lives Matter movement in general. It's been the trending topic for a solid week and a half now, but it isn't a new thing. The Black Lives Matter movement has been an ongoing push to end racial injustice for seven years now. Talking about race makes people uncomfortable, I get it. But in order for us to see a change in society, we need to get uncomfortable and take action.

Growing up in an Asian household, talking about certain topics, especially racism towards the Black community or the Black Lives Matter movement, can be difficult with your parents. It's not necessarily because they don't care, it's that they don't know much about it, have a language barrier, didn't learn this in school, or even grew up in a community that had Black people in it. Regardless of the reason, it's time to sit down and have a talk with them.

Over the past few weeks, I've started to have a conversation with my parents and various members of my family on the Black Lives Matter movement.  I've shared why I'm so passionate about this, why it's important, and tried to answer the questions they had. I have to admit, it has been uncomfortable, difficult, and even frustrating at times, but it's good that we're getting the conversation started. Change isn't going to happen overnight, but the important thing is we're taking steps every day to move forward. I've written a letter to my parents down below talking all about the Black Lives Matter movement. Feel free to use it as a guide to starting the conversation with your parents.

Dear Mom and Dad,

By now I'm sure you've heard about Black Lives Matter on the news, read about it on Facebook, or even overheard about it in the grocery store. It's been the topic on everyone's minds for the last few weeks. This isn't a new thing. The Black Lives Matter movement started back in 2013 but is now gaining attention again with the most recent murder of George Floyd and it cannot just fade back into the cracks again. Not this time. Things need to change and the Black community needs our help.

For centuries the Black community has been oppressed victims of systematic racism. Black people are two times more likely to be unemployed even with a college degree. On average, a Black employee will earn 62% less than their white co-worker. A Black woman is five times more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than a white woman. And those examples are just barely scratching the surface of the unfair treatment they are facing every day. The Black community has been oppressed for far too long and we need to help play a part in making their voices heard.

I'm sure you are aware of the fact that Black people were brought here as slaves against their will. Black people were horribly mistreated and looked at as nothing but property for centuries. Even when they were no longer slaves, they had to build back up their lives from nothing with no institutional help. Yes, they are no longer slaves, but they are still not treated as equals and were not given many of the same rights for years. As a result, they are tired, they are angry, they are fed up and they have every right to be.

To you, America has been the land of the free, home of the brave. It was the land of opportunity and in several ways, it has been. You were able to escape a war-torn country and have a fresh start here to make a name for yourself, and you did.  For the Black community, America hasn't been like that for them. The Black community has a completely different experience and view of America than we do. For them, America has been a country that was built on the back of Black people and one that has treated them poorly in return.

When you hear us say "Black Lives Matter" we are not saying only Black lives matter or that we're undermining the fact that Asian people have been oppressed too. We are saying Black lives matter just as much as any other life. The problem with saying "all lives matter" is that it would imply that Black lives already matter, but with the trend of police brutality and systematic racism it is clear that they are not treated the same. An easy way to picture the situation going on is if you have five kids and one kid falls and gets a cut. Would you give a bandaid to all five kids or would you give a bandaid to the one with the cut? Right now the Black community is the one with the cut. A deep one at that.

I understand Asian people have been oppressed in this country. I understand we have had our history of racism, bullying, and unfair treatment, but at the end of the day, we are not being killed because of the color of our skin. When people look at us they don't automatically think that we're dangerous or a threat. We have the privilege of being able to wear a hoodie, go out on a run, or even get stopped by a cop without being afraid we'll be murdered because of the color of our skin.

This movement is about ending racial injustice, not ending murders altogether. We can all agree that murder is horrible, no matter who does it, but what we're fighting against is being murdered solely because of the color of your skin. Yes, it is true that statistically Black people kill other Black people more than White cops kill Black people, but Black people are not killing each other because of the color of their skin. The issue is that we shouldn't be afraid of the people who are here to protect us.

Black people are our friends, co-workers, classmates, teachers, roommates, and neighbors. We share this country with them and they have every right to enjoy this country and feel safe as we do. I am in full support of the Black Lives Matter movement and hope you understand and support it too. I hope this provides more insight into the movement and why it's important for us to stand with the Black community.

With love,

This letter was inspired by Letters for Black Lives which is a letter collectively written by a group of Asian Americans to talk to their relatives about Black Lives Matter. I had wanted to customize the letter to touch more on my parent's questions as well as tailor it to them. To those of you who are struggling to talk about Black Lives Matter with your parents, I hope you find this helpful and please let me know down below if I had missed any points.

I hope you all have a wonderful day and as always, thank you for reading.

xoxo,
Amy
