How to pose for your next photoshoot

5 poses to try out at your next photoshoot | how to pose for photos

So you have a photoshoot booked, your hair and makeup are looking flawless and you have a killer outfit on. You get in front of the camera and suddenly you're thinking "WHAT DO I DO WITH MY HANDS?! Been there. Done that. And quite frankly, it still happens.

Getting in front of a camera can be hard. I mean, it's so easy to revert to your go-to post of putting your hand on your hip or a 2000's peace sign. Today I'm sharing five fun and easy poses to try out at your next photoshoot. So, if you're looking to add some *spice* to your Instagram photos, keep reading.

WALK IT OUT

This is probably the easiest pose to incorporate and my usual go-to. It's as simple as it sounds, you just walk towards to camera or rock back and forth from your front and back foot to make it look like you're walking. Want to switch it up even more? Instead of your traditional straight on walking shot, try having your photographer or camera angled lower and walk at an angle to make your legs look miles long.

GIVE IT A TWIRL

Show off your flowy dress and try out some twirling shots! This is my favorite pose to do in dresses and I love the movement that it gives. Simply twirl back and forth to add some movement to your clothes. If you have a longer dress or skirl you could also try holding it in your hands as your twirl for a fun shot as well. This does take a couple tries to get the right shot, but so worth it!

SWING IT

This is a fun one! Grab your purse or jacket and try swinging it towards the camera for a fun shot. My personal favorite angle is when the photographer is down lower and I swing my item towards them. Again, takes a few shots with the movement, but the final photo is worth it in my opinon. You can also get a variety of shots with either you being in focus or the item being in focus.

LOOK BACK AT IT

Show off some shoulder and have your back turned to the camera and on three do a half twist to look back for the photo. This is perfect for showing off any back detail for your clothes or if your shoes have a fun bottom to them.

SHOW SOME LEG

This is one of my favorites! All you have to do is kick up your leg for a fun movement shot. This is perfect for showing off your favorite pair of shoes. You can get creative and have your photographer be at a lower angle and shoot you kicking from the side or straight on.

What's a Shacket + How to style one

 So... what's a shacket?

If you've been scrolling through Instagram or keeping up with fashion trends this past season then you may have seen the term "shacket" thrown around a time or two. I've seen girls style this piece with oversized sweatshirts or paired with cute skinny jeans... but what exactly is it? Is it an oversized flannel shirt? Jacket?

Well... it's actually both. Hence the name.

What is a shacket?

So with a quick Google, a shacket is described as "a shirt thick enough to be halfway between a shirt and a jacket - an ideal, year - round layering piece" according to Thread. Pretty straight forward. Shacket may be a new term in the fashion world, but I feel that this piece has been around for years. On Instagram I've been sharing that I've been raiding my father's closet every time I visit and have found several oversized coudry shirts that we would now label as a "shacket." So, I guess you can say my dad was ahead of the trends, lol.

How do you style a shacket?

Now that we understand what exactly a shacket is, how the heck do you style one? Really, how you would any other outtewear. My favorite way has been styling it with a mockneck sweater, my favorite skinny jeans and booties for an everyday look. For something a little more casual, layer this over your favorite hoodie and leggings. We love versitiliety.

What you think about the shacket trend? Are you all for it or it's not your style. Let me know in the comments down below!

Winter Try-On with Femme Luxe

Last month I had polled on Instagram stories on the type of content you all wanted to see here on The Daily Amy in the new year. Many of you had expressed you wanted to see more try-on type content so, with that, we're kicking off the first style post of 2021 with a try-on!

Femme Luxe loungewear try on

*Disclaimer: This post is in partnership with Femme Luxe and as always, all opinions are my own. Thank you so much for supporting brands that support The Daily Amy!

Today I've teamed up with Femme Luxe to share a try-on featuring some of their new loungewear and outerwear pieces. Since we're still in quarantine mode, most of my outfits as of late have been comfy loungewear pieces and easy jackets to throw on to run to the grocery store so I was very excited to receive these pieces to try out for you all.

If you have not heard of Femme Luxe before, they are an online clothing store offering on-trend Influencer inspired clothes. I have done a couple posts with them in the past including a full-on clothing review if you would like to read more about them.

Before we jump into the try-on I want to give some quick specs on my typical sizing for reference. I'm typically a size medium / 4 in most stores for both tops and bottoms. I am about 5'4". The sizing listed in this try on are in UK sizes.

Lilac Cropped Hoodie and High Waisted Jogger Set

Size: 10
Fit: True to Size

We're kicking things off with my favorite piece(s) from this try-on. I've been seeing matching pastel loungewear sets all over TikTok and I'm so glad to finally add one to my collection of comfies. When I say I've been wearing this set nonstop, I'm not kidding. This loungewear set is incredibly soft, cozy, and warm, and perfect for work from home days. The hoodie is slightly cropped and I'd say it' comes to the top of my pants. As for the joggers, they are extremely high waisted on me and I find that folding them down once makes them fit best.

White Cropped Denim Jacket

Size: 10
Fit: Runs Small

If you've been following me on Instagram you may know that my denim jacket collection has steadily been growing this past year. I believe I have about four now in my collection and thought it was time to branch out and add a white denim jacket to my growing collection.

This cropped style denim jacket gives me total 90's vibes and I'm all for it. I will say it does run quite tight on my shoulders, but I will note my shoulders are pretty broad. This jacket also has a slightly puffed shoulder which is super fun!

Black Cropped Denim Jacket

Size: 12
Fit: True to size

This black denim jacket is the same as the white jacket shown previously just sized up. I figured to size up on this jacket for a more oversized fit, but as stated on the white jacket, this style does run pretty small. With that said, sizing up to a size 12 fits true to size on me. I think this is such a fun piece to add to my wardrobe and have been loving pairing it with cropped hoodies and jeans for a more casual look!

Dark Grey Cuffed Joggers
Dark Grey Cuffed Joggers - Femme Luxe

Size: 10
Fit: True to size

These joggers are the ultimate cozy go-to comfy sweatpants. These fit the same as the joggers in the purple lounge set and I find that folding them over like the purple joggers fits me best. These joggers have a drawstring to adjust the waist to your liking and functioning pockets.

What was your favorite piece? Let me know in the comments down below! I hope you all have a wonderful day and as always, thank you for reading!

xoxo,
Amy

How I Land Brand Collaborations With Less Than 3,000 Followers

how to land brand collaborations as a nano blogger

A couple weeks ago I shared on TikTok some of the 25 brand collaborations I had in 2020 with less than 3,000 followers on Instagram. I think there's this misconception that you need to have well over 10,000 followers on Instagram to collaborate with brands and I wanted to share in the video that it's not the case at all. I do want to note when I refer to "brand collaborations" I'm including both gifted / product exchange products and paid campaigns.

Over the years I've been very fortunate to collaborate with over 70 brands with some of them being reoccurring monthly partnerships. I have been receiving quite a few questions in regards to HOW I was able to land those collaborations and wanted to share a more in-depth breakdown on how I did it since there's only so much you can fit into a 60-second video.  So if you're just starting out or a smaller blogger and want to start working with brands, continue reading to see some of my tips!

POSTING QUALITY CONTENT

First things first, you need to be posting quality content. Before you begin to collaborate with brands you need to first show that you can post good, quality content. Whether it be Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc., you need to start posting content to show brands the type of content you're able to produce and what you have to offer. Think of this as being your portfolio.

Once you have some content posted, work on creating an engaged audience. At the end of the day, influencer marketing is a business and you need to show brands that you have the numbers you're able to produce.

Winc Brand Collaboration

There are three main ways I land brand collaborates: pitching to brands directly, through influencer networks, and from brands reaching out to me directly. I'd say I get the majority of my brand collaborations from brands reaching out to me directly and me pitching directly to them.

PITCHING TO BRANDS

As I previously stated, I'd say pitching to brands directly and brands reaching out to me are pretty much tied in the top two ways I get collaborations. I've been reaching out to brands directly for quite a few years now and after several years of practice, I have managed to land collaborations with brands such as Versona, Fabletics, and The Mint Julep.

So, how does one even begin to reach out to brands? It can be intimidating, I get it. I'd first sit down and write down a list of brands you'd like to work with. Think of companies you already love and purchase from for starters. This way it'll be a more natural collaboration for both you and the brand. I also think this is a given, but try not to reach out to brands that don't fit with your target audience. For example: if you share a lot on budget fashion and suddenly partner with Chanel. As exciting as that may be, you may also lose your audience's trust which can hurt you in the long run.

As for finding brand contacts there a few ways to go about this. The easiest way is to look directly on their website under their "About Me" or "Contact Us" page. You're going to want to look for someone who works in their marketing / pr / social media department and find their email address there. Other ways to find brand contacts that I've used in the past include LinkedIn, Googling, or looking through the brand's social media accounts.

Some things I like to include in my brand pitches are:

  • My stats - target audience, how many views my blog gets, total followers, engagement rate, etc.
  • A little about me / something that makes me stand out
  • The reason why I want to work with the brand / my personal connection with the brand
  • Ideas I have for the potential collaboration
  • Links to my previous work / similar work I would do for the brand
I usually offer to send my media kit if they would like to see it as well. When pitching to a brand it's important to remember you're reaching out to someone who's likely having their inbox filled with several pitches. Think of ways that make you and your account stand out and grab their attention.

BRANDS REACHING OUT TO ME

The next way I have been able to get brand collaborations is brands reaching out to work with me. Although I can't give you exact tips on why brands choose me for their collaborations, I can give you tips I've implemented to help get me seen by brands.

  • Tag brands in your photos and stories. If you're doing an OOTD post on your story, sharing an outfit on your feed, talking about your favorite skincare product, etc. tag the brand! This will notify the brand you are actively using their product and may consider you a good fit for an upcoming campaign
  • Use branded hashtags. Similar to tagging brands directly, use their branded hashtags. For example, if you are featuring a shirt from Target add hashtags such as #targetactually #foundattarget
  • Follow your favorite brands and interact with them. Easy way to get the brand / social media manager to recognize your user name if you're actively engaging with their content.
  • Optimize your bio. Be sure to include the city you're based out of and the type of content you post. Are you engaged? Share that. That way when brands are scrolling online looking for a Charlotte blogger that's engaged you'll be easier to find.

INFLUENCER NETWORKS

Next up we have Influencer Networks. I will say I don't get a ton of traction from Influencer Networks and it may just be a combination of me not applying / me not meeting the set requirements, but I still get some cool opportunities from time to time. Influencer networks are basically a third-party marketplace where brands can post campaigns to work with influencers and influencers can search through and find campaigns to sign up for.

Some influencer platforms I've used in the past include:

  • InfluenceHer Collective
  • BrandBaker
  • Cohley
  • Social Fabric
  • Collectively
  • Aspire IQ

OTHER WAYS TO WORK WITH BRANDS IF YOU HAVE A SMALL FOLLOWING

I think there's a misconception that the only way to work with brands is to post about them on social media. Let's say you don't have a large following, your engagement is ok, but your photography skill is AMAZING. Or even you have a natural talent for video editing. Try reaching out to a brand to see if you could work with them to provide content for their social media. Often times paying creators for social media content is cheaper for the brand than higher the team to put together a full-on photoshoot.

I will say, I've only done this a couple times and it's through an influencer platform, but I have heard of a few others reaching out to brands directly to this for them. Something to keep in mind and consider!

And there we have it, friends! That is a rough rundown on how I've been able to collaborate with brands over the years. I'm thinking of making this a mini-series here on my blog so if you have any questions/topics you'd like me to touch on please leave them down below! I'm also sharing daily blogging / social media tips on my TikTok and Instagram if you'd like to keep up with me there!

I hope you all found this helpful and good luck!!

xoxo,

Amy
