Why things have been a little quite lately...

Sooooo things have been a little quieter around here since the new year started and thought it's time to let you all in on what's been going on! Grab a snack and some fine friends, it's gonna be a long update.

If you have been following me on Instagram for the past two months or so you may have heard me say something along the lines of "sorry I've been a bit MIA lately I have been tending to some things in my personal life...." Which I know can be SO annoying hearing it over and over and I've gone back and forth on whether I wanted to let you all know what I've been up to but I wanted to play it safe in case things fell through, I jinxed myself, etc. etc. etc.

SO, the "thing in my personal life" that's been taking up most of my attention these past few months has been...

WE'RE MOVING! (and I got a new job 😬)

It's been a busy few months trying to balance it all let me tell ya.

If you don't know, my boyfriend Christian has been applying to medical school for the past year and after a very long application cycle, he has heard back from five schools! A few (dozen) pros and cons lists later he finally has a school he's committing to. I'm so incredibly proud of him and all of his hard work this past year and a half.

While Christian was busy trying to figure out which school he's going to sell his soul away to... I mean attend ya girl has been busy sending out my resume to anyone who would give me the time of day. Before I dive more into my job hunting fiasco, I do want to preface me moving with Christian when he went off to med school was never our plan. When Christian and I first started dating he was studying for the MCAT, I had just moved back to Charlotte for work and we both knew long-distance was eventually going to be in our future with him going off to school. I have always been firm in my stance of never wanting to follow a boy unless we were at least engaged. (Don't you all start suspecting anything, unless... 👀👀👀)

Well, as we learned from 2020 things don't always go as plan.

It was about a year and a half into my previous job when I decided I wanted to start looking for a new role elsewhere. I was brand manager for a wholesale diamond company and although I really enjoyed my job and loved getting to play with diamond rings all day, I felt stagnant. My position no longer challenged me and I wanted a role that focused more on what I was interested in which was social media / digital marketing. And so began my routine of spending hours scrolling through Indeed and LinkedIn for any position that I would be qualified for.

Guys, job hunting is hard. Job hunting during a pandemic? That's a whole different ball game. More companies are opening positions for remote work and even though that means you have more companies to add to your list to apply to, that also means you have more people you have to compete with. When I first announced that I finally landed my first big girl job after college I mentioned that it took me over 8 months and 200 job applications to land my job and I was scared going into the hunt again that it'd be going through the same thing all over again.

While I was filling out applications I also had to come up with a game plan for my living situation. Due to the pandemic, I have been living with Christian and his brother since my lease ended in June (more on there here) and I had to figure out where I would live when Christian went off to school. I didn't have any potential roommates lined up and the thought of me paying half of my monthly income for a one-bedroom apartment wasn't ideal for me. So my options were either to find a job that paid more or move with Christian... or both.

We started to explore the possibility of me moving with Christian when he went off to school and after a lot of thought, we decided to keep the option open. After Christian got into both of his top two schools it helped give us an idea of what city he was going to move to and I was now able to search for positions that were in Charlotte, remote, or the city he would be attending school.

Over the past few months, my days consisted of working my 9 -5, tweaking my resume, filling out job applications, phone interviews, apartment hunting for places in both Charlotte and different city (which was a hurtle itself, let me TELL YA), and trying to keep up with The Daily Amy. Job hunting and finding an apartment are already stressful as is, doing them together was another beast. I was never big on manifesting, creating vision boards, or anything of that sense, but after a couple months of dead ends, I figured why the heck not.

Y'ALL.

Call it coincidence, voodoo magic, the universe looking after you, or whatever, but I'm not kidding when I say a week after I made my vision board and starting focusing my energy trying to manifest what I had put on it to come to life things started to fall into place.

Several phone calls and a couple tears later I'm SO happy to announce that I have accepted a position as a Digital Marketing Specialist for a luxury furniture company! Last week was my first week working in my new position and I can tell I am going to enjoy my new position a lot... and it's remote!

Oh, and remember my whole living situation? In January Christian and I toured an apartment we LOVED, but the particular unit we were looking at had very limited availability, already had a lot of people interested in it, and we were waitlisted on it. After I accepted my new position, we heard back from the apartment complex and we signed on the place last week!

I also finally ovaried up and got my booty to the doctor's for some blood work and everything came back normal. THANK GOD. Again, maybe another story for another day, lol.

So, there you have it, that's what I have been up to behind the scenes! I am now trying to get adjusted to my new full-time position, balancing doing freelancing on the side and planning a move. It's been a little overwhelming, but also so exciting and I am so happy I finally get to have you all in the loop and take you with us!

Also, don't worry I will announce where we'll be moving to soon. (;

Want to catch up on what I have been up to the last week? I vlogged my last week working my previous position as a brand manager on my YouTube channel!

WHEW. If you've made it this far thank you SO much for taking the time to read! I am so excited to start share moving content with you all! Leave your guess below to where you think we're moving to! As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

xoxo,

Amy

10 at home Valentine's Day date ideas

at home valentine's day date night ideas

Valentine's day is just around the corner and it's hard to believe that after this holiday we've officially celebrated every holiday in quarantine. Nowadays date nights have turned into nights in with our favorite take-out and binge-watching the latest Netflix show. Even though Valentine's day plans may look a little different this year, there are still some fun (and safe!) ways to celebrate the day of love with your Valentine.

1. Romantic candlelight dinner at home

Bring the five-star dining experience home and put together a romantic candlelight dinner in the comfort of your own home. Even though indoor dining is an option for us here in North Carolina, we still haven't felt safe enough to eat inside of a restaurant just yet. All you really need is a nice tablecloth, some placemats, and candles to bring the restaurant experience home. Want to add in a romantic touch? Throw in some rose petals!

Christian actually put together a candlelight dinner for us for our anniversary and it was such a sweet surprise. You could chef up your favorite meal to serve or order to takeout from your favorite restaurant and plate it at home!

2. At home sip and paint

Bring out your inner artist with an at-home sip and paint event! There are a couple different ways you could go about this. You could pick up some blank canvases, acrylic paint, and paintbrushes and find a video tutorial on YouTube. Another option would be to order a paint by number from Amazon or even custom paint by number with a portrait of you and your Valentine!

I have actually always wanted to do a sip and paint class, but think we are planning to do an at-home version this year for Valentine's day! We plan to have our favorite bottle of red and put together a grazing board while we paint away!

3. Elevated movie night

I know, I know, by now you probably have had enough at home movie nights to hold you over for the next decade, but there are still ways to make them special. Instead of cuddling on the couch like usual, why not set up a mini fort in your living room? You could deck it out with fairy lights and cozy pillows to make it extra special. Just finish it off with your favorite snacks and drink of choice and voila, an upgrade to your everyday movie night.

4. Cook a meal together

Why not chef it up in the kitchen and try out a new recipe? There are tons on Pinterest or you could even order a meal delivery service such as HelloFresh. Another option would be Want to take an actual class? Sur La Table offers online cooking classes that may be a fun option to check out! Want to take it another step further? Make it a themed dinner! From a night out in Italy or on a sandy beach in Mexico, decorate your space and chef up a meal from that country to switch things up!

5. Have a cook-off

Want to add a bit of competition? Instead of cooking together have a cook-off! You each pick out a recipe and see who is the better chef in the relationship. The cook-off could be a free-for-all or a theme of your choice! Some ideas could be grill off, specific cuisine, breakfast cook-off, or gourmet cook-off!

6. Bar hop at home

Turn your home into a night out on the town and turn each room into a different themed bar. Your porch could be the hottest rooftop bar in the city. The living room? A fun video game bar. The kitchen? The best bar for midnight snacks. With a little creativity, your home could be the hottest spot in the city.

I had actually surprised Christian for his birthday with this idea and it was so fun! I made signs for each "bar" and made up special drinks for each location.

7. Have an at-home spa night

Pamper yourselves with an at-home spa night! Breakout all of your body scrubs, facial masks, and beauty products to have a relaxing night in. Slip into some cozy robes and have a relaxing night in together.

8. Have a game night

Feeling competitive? Break out your favorite board games and pour some drinks for a fun night in. A little friendly competition is always fun and I'm sure you have a board game or two laying around.

9. Have a tasting party

From wine to ice cream to fast food chicken nuggets, gather up a variety of choices to taste test. Wanna take it a step further? Do a blind taste test! I've always wanted to do a fast-food chicken nugget taste test where we get chicken nuggets from popular fast-food restaurants and blindly rank them to see which restaurant has the best chicken nuggets!

10. Have a Karaoke Night

Sing your hearts out with an at-home karaoke night! Purchase your own karaoke kit or just simply find videos on YouTube and use your trusty hairbrush as a makeshift microphone. Either way, you're in for an entertaining night in.

Have any other at-home date night ideas? Share them with us down below! I hope you all found this post helpful and as always, thank you for reading!

Amy

Love is in the air and if you're like my boyfriend then gift-giving is your way of professing your love to someone. Christian and I have been together for two years now and I will say he is probably the best at giving gifts. From birthdays to anniversaries he always manages to gift me the most meaningful gifts and I thought it'd be fun to share some of those ideas with you all in case you're looking for something meaningful to gift your Valentine this year!

Whether you're looking to drop some serious $$$$ or looking for something small and meaningful to gift to your significant other this Valentine's Day I have rounded up the best picks for you all.

DAINTY GOLD RINGS

Dainty gold rings

Can one really go wrong with gifting jewelry? I've been a big fan of dainty gold rings lately and think this gold initial ring would be such a cute gift. You could gift it with her initial, your initial, or the initial of her future last name. The possibilities are endless.

HEART SHAPED PHOTO NECKLACE

heart shaped photo necklace

Have a favorite photo of the two of you? Why not turn it into a necklace? Christian gifted me this heart-shaped photo necklace right before our anniversary and I absolutely love it. It looks like a heart necklace, but if you look closely at it, it has one of our favorite photos together in the center. Such a cute and special gift to wear around.

WOODEN MUSIC BOX

Wooden music box

Do you have a song? This little music box is not only adorable but can play the tune of your favorite song with one simple turn of the handle. Christian had given me was this adorable wooden music box. We had met at a Christmas party singing a song from Moana and one year he had gifted me this music box that plays "How far I'll go." It's such a sweet gift and every time I spin the box to hear the song it reminds me of the night we met!

SPOTIFY ACRYLIC PRINT

SPOTIFY ACRYLIC PRINT

These Spotify album prints were big on TikTok last year and I think they are adorable! You can totally make these yourself or if you're not the crafty time there are a ton of Etsy sellers who makes these as well. You can completely customize this with a favorite photo of you two, your favorite song, anniversary date, etc.

HANDWRITING BRACELET

HANDWRITING BRACELET

How sweet would it be to wear a bracelet with "I love you" written on it from your significant other? You can send any short phrase or message to this Etsy seller and they can turn your everyday handwritten note into a beautiful piece of jewelry.

THE ADVENTURE CHALLENGE BOOK

THE ADVENTURE CHALLENGE BOOK

I've been seeing ads on this book float around Instagram for some time now and think it's just adorable! Essentially it's a book with 50 scratch-off adventures you can do together. Perfect for the couple who wants to get out of the slump of pizza and Netflix for date nights.

Valentine's Day clothing picks for under $50

valentine's day outfit picks

Happy February!

We're officially in the month of love and if you know me then you know that I love any excuse to wear the color pink... but it hasn't always been like this. Growing up I actually hated Valentine's Day. It wasn't due to not having a significant other to celebrate with or anything like that, it was mainly because it was just so incredibly cheesy. I remember strolling through Target and rolling my eyes at the overpriced heart shaped boxes of candy.

It wasn't until a couple years ago I actually started to like Valentine's Day. I'm not sure what exactly triggered the sudden change of mind, but I figured what's life if you don't find a reason to celebrate it? Plus, I love a good theme to dress up for.

So, with that being said, I thought it be fun to  round up some fun Valentine's Day clothing picks for you all! Most of these items are priced under $50 and can be styled beyond Valentine's Day as well. Whether you're celebrating Valentine's day with a significant other or with your gal pals I round-up of some Valentine's day themed clothing pieces that would be perfect to wear all month long.

Winter outfits I've been loving lately

Winter outfits I've been loving lately

Ok, so fun fact I actually hate the cold. Can't stand it. Wouldn't survive up north. I'm a baby about it. So needless to say the south is where I'll probably be living for the rest of eternity because the idea of having to shovel my sidewalk on the regular every winter does not sound appealing to me.

But, I will say the only good (ok, one of the good things I'm sure there are plenty other) about the cooler weather is outfits you get to put together. I love warm weather but I feel like you can only get so creative with mixing and matching your tank tops and skirts, ya know? I mean, if I'm going to be shivering and miserable I mine as well do it style, am I right?

Today I thought it would be fun to share some winter outfits I've been loving lately to hopefully give you all some inspo on what to wear for the cooler months as well as an insight on some of the trends I have been loving. An alternative title for this post can also be "outfits I've worn to the grocery store this past month," so take it however you like.

Oversized Hoodie + Tights

winter outfits I've been loving | oversized sweatshirt dress
Hoodie Dress c/o use code DAILYAMY15 for 15% off || Tights || Boots

Kickin' it off with the most recent outfit pairing: an oversized hoodie and sheer tights. It's like, she's cool and casual, but wants to be dressy and cute. Also, the oversized hoodie moment is kind of giving me Ariana Grande vibes??? Let me know if you feel the same.

Light wash Jeans + White Booties
winter outfits I've been loving
Sweater c/o: use code DAILYAMY15 or 15% off || Jeans || Similar Booties || Purse

If you've been around for a hot sec then you know that I'm strictly a black jean gal in the winter months, but lately, the light wash jeans have been having a moment for me. I raved about these boyfriend jeans this past summer and have been loving pairing them with my go-to white booties and sweaters in the winter.

Shackets
winter outfits I've been loving
Shacket c/o: use code the DAILYAMY15 for 15% off || Sweater || Jeans || Booties

Ok, who isn't on board with the shacket trend by now? I mean these babies are so cozy and can be paired with so much. I've been wearing this purple one with simple white sweaters and black jeans for the days I have to go into the office, but can totally see myself wearing this with my white tennis skirt as we transition into spring.

The All Black Look
winter outfits I've been loving
Sweatshirt || Jeans || Shoes || Necklace

Not sure why, but winter is when my "edgier" side comes out and I tend to gravitate towards the color black. I think I'm just mourning the warm weather and need the slimming color to hide all the extra treats I've been eating... anywho. This cropped sweatshirt and boyfriend jean combo has been a go to for grocery runs. Add some gold accessories and you look Pinterest worthy.

Statement Denim Jackets
winter outfits I've been loving
Denim Jacket || Gray Turtleneck || Jeans || Booties

I love a good denim jacket but add a little bit of *spice* to them and I'm ALL FOR IT. This sequin start denim jacket is a recent addition to my collection and let me tell ya it's everything I could ever ask for. It's oversized, has sparkles, slightly distressed, and makes me feel like a bad b. What more could you want?

winter outfits I've been loving
Sweat set c/o || Slippers

And lastly, a more realistic look at what I have been for most of the winter. Matching sweat sets have been all over my TikTok and I couldn't resist the pretty purple one. Basically, catch me in anything with an elastic waistband if I'm not having to leave my house for groceries.

What fashion trends have you been loving lately? Let me know in the comments down below!

xoxo,
Amy
