Ah, dad's, they're great, aren't they? They're full of lame jokes and your go-to for all of your car problems. With Father's Day just around the corner, I wanted to take a second to shine a light on the greatest man in my life, my dad!

My dad and I are the ultimate daddy-daughter duo. When I was little everywhere my dad went, I went. He drove me to every cheer practice, attended every dance recital, moved me in and out of college and everything in between. My dad is my biggest cheerleader and I'm so grateful to have him in my life. Today I wanted to share 5 out of the many things my dad has taught me over the years. Of course, my dad has taught me way more than 5 things over the course of my life, but we might be here a while if we go through every. single. one.

So, without further ado, let's just jump right in!

1. "Don't cheat yourself"
My dad always told me to not "cheat myself" meaning that I should always give everything my all. He always told me in school that although getting straight A's would be great, it would mean nothing if I cheated my way through. He said it is way better if you tried your hardest and learned something and make a C than if you cheated your way through and made an A.

I've tried to keep that mindset in the back of my mind whether it before school, working out, or life in general. I try my best to give my all to everything and sometimes that's all I can do.

2. "Sometimes in life we have to do things we don't like"
Let's face it, not everything we do in life is going to be our favorite thing ever. Dad always told me sometimes in life we have to do things we don't like in order to succeed/get better / do well in life whether it be taking on a part-time job we might not like, staying up late taking an exam or going to the gym.

I don't think he was necessary saying you have to be miserable through every aspect of your life (ie a job), but I think it was more so that sometimes you have to go through things in life sometimes and to always keep a positive mindset on it!

p.s. I had to include a photo of my dad wearing this red hat! He LOVED it that winter and it was so funny seeing him sport it!

3. "It's not what's on the outside that matters, it's what's on the inside"
Even though dad and I always loved a good sharp outfit, he always made sure to remind me that it's not always so much what you look on the outside that counts, but who you are as a person. Yeah, it's great that you have a super cute outfit on, but none of that matters if you're a terrible person.

Dad always made the comparison to dog poop. You can cover the dog poop up with all the clothes, perfume and makeup in the world, but it's still going to be dog poop.

4. "You will always have family"
Family is EVERYTHING. Dad is always strong on that. He always preached to keep family close because everyone out in the real world is out to get you. Even though I don't entirely think the part about everyone in the real world is out to get you is 100% sure, but I do agree that family is important.

I definitely see where I get all of my silly blog poses from.. haha!

5. "There's always room for carrot juice"
Dad is big on making sure we get enough nutrients throughout the day. We could be eating a huuuuggeee dinner and be stuffed to the brim with food and he would still always make us drink a glass of home made carrot juice just to top it off. Even though it low key sucks at the time, I'll at least thank him years from now when I have amazing skin!

So here's to you dad! Through spoiling me throughout my childhood, to my awkward stubborn tween stages to now post college grad life, thanks for being there with me every step of the way. You're always there to guide me through life whether it be on how to open a can of beans or finding my first apartment. Thank you for everything and I can only hope to be half as great as you are one day!
