7_things_I_wish_i_knew_before_I_started_blogging

Happy Wednesday friends!

I thought I would switching things up a bit today and share a different type of blog post with you all today than my typical outfit posts. As some of you all know, I have been blogging for a little over 2 1/2 years now (CRAZY) and there are some things I wish I had knew before I started this blogging adventure... So let's just jump right into them now, shall we?

1. Photos in public are AWKWARD

Who knew you would get so many weird looks and stares when you go out to take photos? I can't tell you how many times where I just change my mind on taking outfit photos that day or tell RJ that we need to relocate just because there are so many people around. I'm still very awkward at taking photos when other people are around, but when I tell myself to think of it as you're taking senior photos it tends to make me feel a little better. Plus, at the end of the day it's just pictures. So what people might think you're a little crazy having someone take 100+ photos of you? Life is too short to worry about what others think!

2. Instagram themes are a thing ...and they're low key stressful to maintain

Gone are the days of just mindlessly snapping a mirror selfie and just uploading it to Instagram without giving it a second thought on weather it matches with the rest of your photos or not. By all means I'm saying Instagram themes are necessary for blogging, but there is some sort of expectation to have aesthetically pleasing photos on your feed. I have spent embarrassingly too much time editing and pre planning my photos to make it look like my ideal feed. Even then I don't think it's as up to par as I'd like. #firstworldproblems am I right?

3. Having the "perfect" blog isn't going to happen overnight

Just like how Rome wasn't built in a day, having the "perfect" blog isn't going to happen overnight. By no means am I saying how my blog is now is where I want it to be, but it has definitely came a long way since my very first blog post. You just have to accept that you're going to have to start somewhere and grow from there whether it be your photography, writing style, blog layout, etc. There's always room for improvement and growth!

4. You can schedule your social media and blog posts

It wasn't until almost a year later.. maybe a year and half later that I found out that you can actually schedule your blog posts! Before then all my posts were written and posted the day of at the weirdest hours of the day. About a few months later I found out that scheduling tools such as Tweetdeck and Buffer existed that allows you to schedule your social media posts. These have been a life saver and have been great especially during the school year!

5. Telling people you blog isn't as bad as you think it is

When I first started my blog I was TERRIFIED to tell people about my blog. I remember the day that I decided to post on Facebook to announce that I started a blog and I was so nervous to share to all of my friends, family and random Facebook followers about it. Now, I love telling people that I have a blog and always get a positive response to it. I'm not sure why I thought it was such a scary thing to share about it, and kind of wish I told more people earlier! So if you are just starting out and are scared to tell others about your blog, don't be! It really isn't as bad as you think and you may be surprised on how supportive everyone can be!

6. Business cards for blogs are a thing... and get some ASAP!

It wasn't until I went to my first blogging event and was asked for a business card till I realized that having a business card for your blog was a thing. I mean, it makes sense. How else are people going to remember to go and check your blog out? Business cards are super affordable and I wish I had gotten mine earlier!

7. You'll meet some awesome like minded people

I always saw friendships form online through YouTube, but never really gave it much thought that I would actually meet people through blogging. It wasn't until almost a year into blogging I went to my first meet up and met some new blogger friends! It's still crazy to me to think I've made friends through the Internet and am able to hangout with some great like minded people. If you want to read more on my experiences meeting with other bloggers you can read more here and here!

And that's it! Those are a few of things I wish I had known before I started blogging. If you are a blogger, what are some things you wish you had known before you started your blog? Let me know in the comments down below! I hope you all have a wonderful week and be sure to come back tomorrow for a new outfit post!
