I know many of you are probably tired of hearing the whole "new year, new me" or everyone stating that it's a fresh start to the new year, etc. etc. but for some reason, I just feel SO good about this year.

I guess it's partially because 2017 wasn't the year filled with things that I hoped it would be and I wanted to take control and make 2018 my year. And that starts with me forcing me to step out of my comfort zone.

Happy Friday friends!

I wanted to preface that this post turned out a lot lengthier than I had planned, but something about spilling out all of my feelings has always made me feel better to get it all out there. Growing up I've always had various journals and diaries where I'd write in all of my thoughts and feels, but I guess over the years it kinda transitioned into an online public one. But hey, we're all friends here, right?

I had written a previous post all about how I hate change and how I was going to start approaching it with open arms since it was going to happen regardless... plot twist, easier said than done. Change is sad, it's hard, but it happens. I'm still getting better at accepting it, but still something I'm working on.

Experiences are what help us learn, grow and shape us. I'm pretty sure I've heard something along the lines of that about a million times, but recently I watched a video from Morgan Yates on her New Year's resolutions where she said that we needed experiences to help us grow and for some reason, hearing it for the million and oneth time finally resonated with me.

I'll be the first to admit that I back out of social situations a lot in fear of not know what to say, how things will go, if it'll be awkward, etc. I'd say I'm an extroverted introvert... if that makes sense. Naturally, my instinct is to be pretty shy, quiet and kept to myself, but once I do get comfortable around you then my more extroverted side comes out. It's just that getting comfortable around new people part always terrified me.

One of my new year's resolutions was to get out and spend more time with friends/family/people. I've been really trying to make it my goal to be more social and push myself out of my comfort zone to meet new people. This may sound SO silly to most people that the fact that making lunch plans with friends is so nerve-racking to me sometimes, but it is. I know this also may sound so silly since I've worked in customer service almost all of my life, but it is still the most nerve-racking thing to me.

I figured the only way to help me get over this fear is to experience it as much as I can. That means saying "yes" more to meet up with friends, to planning lunch dates, to messaging a long time online friend to finally meet in person, etc. I do have to say this has been great "practice" for me to get out of my comfort zone because I'll be thrown into a new experience in a couple weeks (which I'll be announcing MONDAY!!) that pretty much forces me to meet and interact with new people.

Bottom line is, I want this year to be the year of new experiences. To growing and pushing myself out of my comfort zone whether it be meeting up with new people, trying a new fashion trend or pushing myself harder in the gym.

I also want to challenge YOU to step out of your comfort zone this year too! Maybe try one new thing that scares you each month. Whether it may be something as simple as being more social (like ya girl), or major such as saying yes to an amazing job opportunity that requires you to move across the country. So here's to new experiences, growth and pushing ourselves this year.

I'd love to know in the comments down below if you struggle with stepping out and being more social or any other situations that terrify you that you'd like to conquer this year. I always love talking to you all in the comments and would love to help any way I can whether it be an accountability partner or giving some extra words of motivation. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and be sure to come back Monday for some exciting news!

xoxo,
Amy
